Kenya Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (KENYA-ECTN)

Kenya – Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (KENYA-ECTN)
In accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Kenya, all cargo shipped to Kenya or transshipped via other ports to a final destination in Kenya must be accompanied by an Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN). ECTN stands for Electronic Cargo Tracking Note. It is a mandatory certification document for exports to Kenya. Failure to obtain it may result in the shipping line at the port of loading being unable to issue the Bill of Lading, or the consignee at the destination port being unable to clear customs. One ECTN corresponds to one Bill of Lading, and the details on the ECTN must be consistent with the Bill of Lading.
Important Notes
**The ECTN certificate must be processed before the shipping line issues the original ocean Bill of Lading.
**Once approved and validated, the original ECTN certificate (in PDF format) will be emailed to the applicant. The applicant should then forward this original certificate to the consignee at the destination port and the shipping line, etc.
